REVENUE

NGR vs GGR: the casino affiliate revenue base

Understand net gaming revenue, gross gaming revenue and why a RevShare percentage is incomplete without the contract's deductions.

THE DEFINITION

NGR means net gaming revenue, a contract-defined revenue amount after specified deductions and adjustments. GGR generally describes gaming revenue before those contract-specific deductions. Neither is automatically the value of customer deposits. A RevShare calculation needs the exact revenue definition and the agreed percentage.

The contract supplies the definition

Do not assume two programmes use the same NGR formula. Ask which bonuses, fees, taxes, refunds or other adjustments the agreement includes. The same percentage can produce a different result when applied to a different base. Store the definition with the accepted terms, not only the rate.

A calculation with visible assumptions

Suppose an educational example starts with $1,000 gross revenue and includes $300 of agreed deductions. The eligible base is $700. At an assumed 30% share, commission is $210 before the affiliate's own costs. These inputs are invented to explain the arithmetic.

Negative periods need another rule

Net revenue can be negative. The agreement determines whether it is carried forward, pooled across brands or handled under an exception. Do not turn a negative report into zero without checking the applicable rule. The next period's result may depend on that balance.

Ask for an auditable statement

A useful statement separates the period, currency, starting base, deductions, adjustments, applicable rate and final commission. It should be possible to reproduce the calculation. A total without its base does not tell you whether the agreed percentage was applied correctly.
