EPC means earnings per click: affiliate commission divided by a consistently counted number of clicks. For a useful commercial comparison, use confirmed commission after reversals and comparable reporting periods. EPC measures performance; it does not mean the programme pays for each click.
Calculate it with a named numerator
In an illustrative campaign, $900 confirmed commission divided by 1,000 counted clicks produces $0.90 EPC. If the commission is still pending, call it pending EPC. If the denominator is unique visitors rather than clicks, call it earnings per visitor. The labels tell another person what was actually measured.
EPC is not profit
The same example includes $800 of media, production and tool costs, leaving $100 before tax and other costs. A high EPC does not establish a positive contribution if the traffic is more expensive. Keep the commission base, cost scope and cash received separate.
Compare like periods
Give both groups the same time to register, deposit and complete validation. Use consistent click counting, currency and adjustment rules. A source that reports late can appear to underperform before its data is complete. A few events can also make an apparent difference unstable.
Use the metric to ask a better question
Ask which offer produces more confirmed commission for comparable traffic, then repeat the result on a new period. Investigate qualification, audience fit and reporting differences. Do not infer an advantage from a higher advertised acquisition fee alone.
