A direct programme contracts with an operator or its affiliate business. A network or hub can help organise access to several opportunities, but its exact role depends on the agreement. Compare who owes the commission, what revenue base you receive, who supplies reports and who resolves disputes. Neither structure is automatically more profitable.
Begin with the counterparty
A brand name on a landing page does not identify the business that owes you money. Ask for the contractual party, applicable agreement and payment process. With an intermediary, establish whether it is the paying counterparty, an introduction service or a reporting layer. Those relationships have different practical consequences.
Compare the work and the responsibility
A hub can reduce the work of organising opportunities, while a direct relationship can give you a conversation with one operator. Both still require suitable traffic and explicit terms.
| Question | Direct programme | Network or hub |
|---|---|---|
| Who approves the source? | The programme under its rules | Confirm both hub and operator requirements. |
| Who calculates commission? | The programme's agreed reporting | Identify the source report and any additional calculation. |
| What does the percentage apply to? | The agreement's revenue base | Establish whether the base is revenue or another commission. |
| Who handles a discrepancy? | Programme contact and dispute process | Named owner and escalation to the source report. |
| What is available? | Brands and markets accepted for you | Only individually confirmed opportunities, not every displayed logo. |
A percentage may describe a different base
A share of an operator's defined net revenue is different from a share of commission received by an intermediary. Ask for a numerical example with the same starting amount and every deduction shown. A lower-looking percentage cannot be judged until the denominator is clear.
Match the structure to your situation
An established publisher may prefer several direct relationships and its own reconciliation. A smaller team may value a coordinated review and one place to organise its work. Compare the administration you save with the terms and dependencies you accept. Do not assume a network automatically secures better rates.
